JOB SUMMARY
This position will support BSW Heart Hospitals located in Plano, McKinney, Denton, Corinth and any future BSW Heart Hospital worksites.
The Infection Preventionist 2 implements and reviews the facility's infection prevention program, to ensure existing standards and guidelines of applicable professional organizations and regulatory and governmental agencies are incorporated into the program, and serves as a subject matter professional about infection prevention issues for all facility team.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
- Designs, implements, and evaluates infection prevention strategies to prevent and control the transmission of infectious agents, applying epidemiologic values and evidence-based guidelines
- Conducts on-going surveillance using Centers for Disease Control (CDC) infection criteria; evaluates the effectiveness of the surveillance plan and modifies as necessary
- Reports patients with communicable diseases to the appropriate health authority
- Develops and updates isolation techniques and procedures by current standards of practice, rules, and regulations
- Evaluates the infection prevention program and maintains compliance with national standards and regulating bodies such as Joint Commission, CDC, OSHA, FDA and HHS through observations, audit tools and other methods
- Plans, organizes, develops, and implements educational programs to increase employee awareness of existence of healthcare-associated infections
- Participates in quality/performance improvement activities by assessing, monitoring, and measuring healthcare-associated infections and evaluating outcomes on a continuous basis
- Partners with teams and team members to create, educate, and sustain evidence-based infection prevention strategies, as well as give feedback
- Participates in continuing educational activities, professional meetings and peer networking, and reviews published literature to maintain current knowledge consistent with the latest research and scholarly knowledge pertaining to healthcare and infection and control
- Performs other position appropriate duties as required in a competent, professional, and courteous manner
