Location Designation:Hybrid - 3 days per week

This position primarily involves a hybrid work schedule - working remotely: Monday & Friday / on site: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Role Overview:

New York Life is seeking a Technology Infrastructure Engineer to provide technical leadership in one or more of the domains supporting the organization's technical infrastructure and contributing to the future success of the business through innovations in technology.

Provides technical design and direction on infrastructure-related work. Assists mentoring technology team members, providing leadership in promoting the NYL Direct infrastructure. Participates in technical projects, tasks, and initiatives to completion. Directs and/or coordinates identification of improvements to systems, procedures and operational methods. Analyzes and evaluates system performance, reliability, capacity trends and scalability potential to develop and implement recommendations to address problems and make improvements.

What You'll Do:

  • Design, implement, and manage technology platforms and systems in a hybrid environment (on-premises and cloud).
  • Implement frameworks, standards and toolsets to support releases and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) deployments.
  • Collaborate with Architecture, Infrastructure, Support and Application teams to deliver solutions - evaluate and identify appropriate/optimal/secure technology solutions
  • Work independently with business and technology teams and provide outstanding user support for processes and technology platforms.
  • Work with application development and automation teams to ensure roles, policies, security and other 'utilities' are built into automated deployment (CI/CD) processes.
  • Optimize system resource usage, maximize utilization of deployed resources and manage run costs by leveraging cost management tooling across platforms.

Reliability and Stability:

  • Act as a 2nd/3rd level technical resource to assist in resolving technical issues. Escalation points of contact for Incident and Problem Management.
  • Ensure that all systems/technical and procedural documentation is accurate; create new documentation to support implementation efforts.
  • Document processes with playbooks to ensure supportability.
  • Ensures proper documentation of complex technical systems to facilitate effective handover to operations.
  • Leverage monitoring platforms, like New Relic and Sumo, to integrate proactive, automated monitoring and dashboards in the technology solutions.
  • Analyze incoming incidents/alerts, assist with prioritizing resolution, and provide technical guidance to aid in resolution process.
  • Design, institute, and provide oversight for well-documented backup & recovery procedures.

Leadership:

  • Guides complex technology projects, including those vendors, multiple technologies, leading technologies, implementation risks, complex business functionality and broad implications for the organization and the IT architecture.
  • Communicates complex ideas; persuades and negotiates with others, often at senior levels, to adopt a different point of view
  • Contributes to strategic technology planning, including proposed cost implications.
  • Creates technical blueprints, translating logical architecture into physical specifications. Directs and oversees the implementation effort.
  • Makes decisions guided by function/business plans and policies that impact the operations of various work areas and related functions
  • Responsible for the delivery of end results focused on operational excellence

Expertise:

  • Serves as a technical expert for a domain or domains.
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of the current and future technology architecture, including the inter-operability of technologies.
  • Provide guidance to other technical teams based on areas of expertise
  • Requires in-depth and/or breadth of expertise in own discipline and broad knowledge of other related disciplines

What You'll Bring:

  • Typical candidates will possess 5+ years of relevant experience and a bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of proven experience designing, implementing, and deploying secure solutions with the associated technologies and capabilities.
  • Experience working in highly integrated, hybrid technology environments.
  • Experience with VMWare, AWS, MuleSoft, HA Proxy or related platforms.
  • Experience with automation of processes with DevOps toolsets such as Terraform, GitHub, and containers.
  • Working knowledge of Jira.
  • Life Insurance or Financial Services industry experience.

  • Able to transform business change into system level solutions. Understandsthe business impact of different solutions and can assess and communicatethe tradeoffs between business needs, technology requirements, costs, and risk.
  • Detail oriented with strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Excellent leadership skills with the capability to work closely with other technical areas, vendors, consultants, etc.
  • Ability to lead teams of a variety of backgrounds and experience levels.
  • Ability to clearly communicatetoboth technical and business teams
  • Ability to facilitate technical discussions with diverse and cross-functional groups
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; strong presentation skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience working inlarge, complex agile development environment.
  • Possesses good understandingof a variety of technology delivery methodologies, including scaled agile, agile and waterfall
  • Able to resolve issues independently, analyzingsolutions using judgment, knowledge and prior experience; develops a new perspective using existing solutions
  • Collaborative but decisive style - highly effective communicator and problem solver.
  • Experience leveraging on-shore/off-shore/vendor staffing.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities while driving resolution and getting results.

Pay Transparency

Salary Range:$90,900 - $125,000

Overtime eligible:Exempt

Discretionary bonus eligible:Yes

Sales bonus eligible:No

Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual's experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program.
